ObXidian is E3D's latest abrasive-ready nozzle offering, specifically designed for printing fibre-filled polymers. Unlike other abrasion resistant Nozzles, ObXidian’s copper alloy construction has a similar thermal performance to Brass, making it a true drop-in replacement. Just use the same slicer profiles as for your brass nozzles.
With a wear resistance that is orders of magnitude higher than any other E3D nozzle, ObXidian is really hard. This is achieved by pairing a tool steel insert with a new E3DLC™ coating. This specially formulated coating also embeds non-stick properties into the nozzle itself, meaning considerably less plastic build up around the Nozzle.
Please note: E3D does not recommend the use of abrasive materials with 0.25mm nozzles. The particle sizes (especially with fibres) can often be larger than 0.25mm, significantly increasing the risk of clogging the nozzle. However, 0.25mm nozzles still benefit from the reduced stick properties of the E3DLC coating. ObXidian™ coated nozzles are exceptionally wear resistant compared to other products on the market and significantly outperform other hardened nozzles. Improvements in ‘exotic’ engineering filaments mean that some new materials which include aggressive fillers, including but not limited to Polymaker’s Polymide range, can cause significant wear on even ObXidian nozzles.
E3D is actively developing even more specialist solutions for these materials. In the meantime please be aware that even the rainbows and unicorns in your ObXidian nozzle are not everlasting under extreme material conditions.
